The majority of the collection consists of manuscripts, typescripts, notes, and related printed materials for Dorn's lectures and writings on European history from medieval times through the 20th century, including files on historiography, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the 17th century, the 18th century, Frederick the Great, Bismarck, and denazification. This latter topic was a result of Dorn's work as a special adviser on denazification to General Lucius D. Clay, U.S. Military Governor in Germany, 1946-1947. Included are manuscript and typescript drafts, notes, notebooks, and printed materials for his unpublished study of post World War II Germany which he had entitled UNFINISHED PURGE. Also included are family photographs and some related biographical materials.

Title: George S. Patton Papers 1807-1979 (bulk 1904-1945)

The papers of George Smith Patton (1885-1945) span the years 1807-1979, with the bulk of the papers concentrated from 1904 to 1945. The collection documents Patton's military career, including his attendance at the United States Military Academy at West Point, 1904-1909; his service on the Mexican border as a member of John J. Pershing's Mexican Punitive Expedition, 1916-1917; his service as an aide-de-camp to Pershing and later as a tank commander in World War I, 1917-1919; and his military career from 1938 to 1945. The majority of the papers chronicle Patton's World War II service and his success as one of America's most skillful combat commanders of armored troops. The papers consist of eleven series: Diaries, Chronological File, Family Papers, Correspondence, Military Papers, Military Library, Maps, Photographs, Speeches and Writings File, Miscellany, and Oversize. Most of the series relate to Patton's personal and military activities and his leadership in the development and tactical use of the tank as a combat weapon. Additional papers concerning Patton's service in World War I are in the Chester Fritz Library of the University of North Dakota located near Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Diaries, 1910-1945, illustrate Patton's activities during the Mexican Punitive Expedition, World War I, and World War II. The volumes, particularly from 1942 to 1945, document Patton's daily activities and observations and reveal his candor about himself, personally and professionally. They include information about American ground combat operations in the campaign for North Africa, the invasion of Sicily, the liberation of France, and the final assault on Germany. Annotated volumes covering World War II often contain additional detail expanding on the original volume entries. The original diaries are dated through 24 March 1945, while annotated transcripts continue to 3 December 1945. The Library did not receive the latter portion of the original diaries. Additional topics include Patton's honeymoon trip to Europe in 1910 and his fox hunting activities, 1932-1935. The Chronological File, 1901-1977, provides an overview of Patton's life, serving as a combination diary-scrapbook consisting mainly of diary entries, correspondence, memoranda, and reports. Approximately one half of the series is in transcript form. The originals of these transcripts are located in other series. This series also contains original items, primarily correspondence, that do not appear in any other series. The Family Papers, 1857-1979, consist mainly of Patton's letters to his wife, Beatrice Banning Ayer Patton, and his father, George S. Patton (1856-1927). Early letters chronicle Patton's struggle as a student at West Point. His letters to his wife are detailed and, like the diaries, contain frank assessments of commanders, subordinates, and military operations. Patton shared not only his achievements with his wife but also some of the negative incidents that affected his career, such as the reaction in November 1943 when the press reported that he had slapped two soldiers suffering battle fatigue in Sicily and his remarks in a speech in Knutsford, England, in April 1944 omitting inclusions of Russia as one of the countries likely to rule the postwar world with the United States and Great Britain. Both incidents threatened his career and almost resulted in his removal from the war. Also in the Family Papers are correspondence of Beatrice Patton and an autobiographical account of Patton's memories of his father. There is a significant amount of printed matter of George H. Smith, Patton's step-grandfather, concerning the Civil War battle of New Market, Virginia. Papers in the Correspondence series, 1903-1945, include incoming and outgoing correspondence between Patton and his staff, commanders, government officials, friends, and the general public. Because many of Patton's friends and colleagues were in the military, there is a significant amount of material in the chronological correspondence that relates to military matters. The official correspondence documents the planning of various combat operations, particularly for the Allied invasion of Sicily and D-Day planning for France and reflects Patton's varied duties as a commander. The topical correspondence includes fan mail, inquiries on casualties, furloughs and discharges, the slapping incidents in Sicily, and Christmas and get-well letters sent to Patton after his automobile accident in December 1945. The Military Papers, 1903-1976, consist of administrative files, Patton's personnel file, and a subject file. The bulk of the series illustrates Patton's duties while a combat commander from 1942 to 1945. The files include orders, citations, memoranda, speeches, training instructions, policy and procedural material, and reports concerning units Patton commanded. Speeches made by Patton to his troops during World War II were originally filed in the Military Papers, and this order has been retained. Duplicates of some of these speeches are filed in the Speeches and Writings File. Documents relating to Patton's personnel file include both personal and official papers. The official papers are included in a microfilm copy of Patton's file in the records of the Department of the Army. Prominent topics featured in the subject file are the cavalry, casualty information, denazification of Germany, displaced persons, and tanks. Much of the material relating to tanks concerns the development of that vehicle and the tactics of armored warfare. The series also contains material relating to Patton's death and funeral. The Military Library series, 1907-1947, includes class publications from West Point, intelligence and campaign reports, and other material relating to military tactics. The majority of the series consists of campaign reports pertaining to France and Germany. Items in the Maps series, 1906-1945, reflect Patton's interest in cartography. Most of the items are situation maps of the European theater and commemorative maps of the United States Third Army's operations in Europe. A map of Western Europe, marked by Patton in March 1944 prior to the development of campaign plans, illustrates with remarkable accuracy the projected route that the Third Army would take in its advance across France and Germany. The Photographs series, 1864-1958, consist primarily of items relating to Patton's military career, although there are a few family photographs in the "Miscellaneous" folders. Locations featured in the World War II pictures include North Africa, Sicily, England, France, and Germany. Also well represented are Patton's years at the military academy at West Point, his tenure at Fort Meade, Maryland, and his service with the Mexican Punitive Expedition. World War II "Miscellaneous" folders include photographs, some autographed, of Patton's superiors and fellow officers. Papers in the Speeches and Writings File, 1900-1947, consist chiefly of articles, speeches, reports, lectures, book reviews, memoranda, poetry, and memoirs. A few writings of others interfiled in this series with Patton's texts are listed in a partial index compiled by Patton. Prominent topics featured in Patton's writings include the saber, the cavalry, mechanization, tanks, and tank tactics. Patton's writings illustrate his early interest in armored warfare and indicate his belief in the tank as an important combat weapon long before its success in World War II. A 1937 paper entitled "Surprise" includes Patton's prediction of an attack by Japan on Pearl Harbor. The Miscellany series, 1911-1966, includes biographical information, certificates and citations, reports, and printed matter relating chiefly to Patton's participation in the pentathlon in the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, his interests in fencing and swordsmanship, and his attendance at the Mounted Service School, Fort Riley, Kansas. Also documented in the series are the various medals and honors awarded Patton during his lifetime and posthumously. The Oversize series, 1807-1951, consists principally of maps, overlays, photograph albums, and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, and other printed matter. This is a transcript of an oral history interview with General Lucius D. Clay. Clay began the interview with his impressions of Dwight D. Eisenhower as a military leader and his support for an Eisenhower Presidential bid in 1951. In his discussion of the 1952 Presidential campaign he talked about his role as intermediary between Eisenhower and professional politicians, Eisenhower's decision to resign his commission and run for President, the influence of Jacqueline Cochran and the "We Want Ike" rally in Madison Square Garden. The interview then moved on to the choice of John Foster Dulles for Secretary of State, Earl Warren's preference for a Supreme Court position over a Cabinet post, Clay's confidence in Herb Brownell and Eisenhower's trip to Korea prior to the inauguration. Clay also talked about military matters during the Eisenhower administration including Admiral Arthur Radford's concern over affairs in the Pacific and American responsibilities to Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Additional topics include Eisenhower's approach to the Joseph McCarthy situation, Eisenhower's capabilities as politician and statesman, Eisenhower's decision to run again in 1956, and the Interstate Highway Commission. Clay ended the interview with a summary of the Eisenhower Administration and some comments on the growth of the Defense establishment.

The photographs in this series were accumulated by Robert B. Anderson over the course of his adult life. The bulk of the photographs concern Anderson's involvement in Federal government, primarily as Secretary of the Navy (1953-1954), Deputy Secretary of Defense (1954-1957), and Secretary of the Treasury (1957-1961). Later photographs mostly concern his financial investments and his diplomatic work on behalf of the United States. In addition, there are photographs of diverse subjects which were sent to Anderson by friends and the general public throughout his life. Among the photos are studio portraits and government agency portraits of Anderson, his family, and prominent acquaintances. The series also contains one reproduction photo and two original cartes de visite, ca. 1865, of Major Robert Anderson, Civil War soldier and West Point graduate (unrelated to Robert B. Anderson). Some topics of interest covered in the series include the founding of Eisenhower Fellowships, diplomacy regarding the Panama Canal Treaties, the launch of the USS Nautilus, nuclear testing, the yacht USS Sequoia, the 1953 trailer for the movie, “Victory at Sea,” and Anderson's participation in the Freemasons. Many photos are related to Anderson's interests in economic development, international trade, mines and mineral resources, oil industries, banks and banking, and real property. A photograph album in the series, which was given to Anderson by the Finance Minister of India, contains many scenes related to the economy of that country. Organizations appearing in the series include the Atlantic-Pacific Interoceanic Canal Study Commission, the American Petroleum Institute, and the National Security Industrial Association. Locations featured include the Pentagon, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the Naval Air Special Weapons Facility at Kirtland Air Force Base (N.M.), the Naval Air Missile Test Center at Point Mugu (Calif.), Camp Pendleton (Calif.), the Naval Photographic Center, the Nevada Proving Ground of the Atomic Energy Commission, Tempelhof Central Airport in Berlin, Mesa Verde National Park, All Hallows by-the-Tower Church in London, the Sam Rayburn Library in Bonham (Tex.), and locations in Hawaii, Greece, the Hague, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Morocco, Taiwan, and Turkey. On April 24, 1967, the President was in Bad Godesberg, Germany for the funeral of former German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer. He had arrived in Germany from Washington, D.C., the evening of April 23. In the morning President Johnson met with Heinrich Lubke, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany at "Villa Hammerschmidt," the German President's home. Following the visit with Lubke, Johnson visited Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger at his office in the "Palais Schaumberg." In the afternoon, Johnson met with General David Burchinal, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the European Command, and then met with Former German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard. In the evening Johnson visited with the Adenauer family to extend his condolences.

The James F. Byrnes papers consist of advertisements, architectural drawings, articles, artifacts, audiovisual materials, campaign materials, certificates, clippings, correspondence, editorials, executive orders, galley proofs, journals, laws and legal documents, legislative bills, lists, maps, microfilm, minutes, petitions, political cartoons, postcards, photographs, publications, reports, scrapbooks, speeches, telegrams, transcripts, and other material. Material in this collection cover the period 1831-2007, with the bulk of the material covering the period midway through his first term as U.S. Senator in 1933 to his death in 1972. The James F. Byrnes papers document his career as a U.S. Senator, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, Director of the Office of War Mobilization and Reconversion (OWMR) during World War II, U.S. Secretary of State and Governor of South Carolina. There is also material relating to his personal life; to his business affairs, including serving on the board of directors of the Newmont Mining Corporation; to his service on the Clemson College Board of Trustees; to the founding of the James F. Byrnes Foundation, which gives scholarships to South Carolina orphans; and to the writing of his two autobiographies, "Speaking Frankly" and "All in One Lifetime." The papers provide evidence of his close relationship with President Franklin D. Roosevelt as Byrnes helps him pass New Deal legislation during the Depression and then coordinates the home front economy during the World War II. They also document Byrnes' role in the immediate post-war peace process and the beginning of the Cold War, especially concerning U.S. policy on the reconstruction of Germany and its reintegration into world affairs. Finally, the collection has material concerning his growing disenchantment with the Democratic Party over civil rights, his support for Dwight Eisenhower in the 1952 presidential campaign, and his continuing disagreement over Supreme Court decisions against segregation, especially school segregation. Items of particular interest include the shorthand notes Byrnes took at the 1945 Yalta Conference; "W.B.'s book," which are excerpts from the journal Walter Brown kept while accompanying Byrnes to the Potsdam Conference in 1945; and Edwin W. Pauley's journal describing the trip of the U.S. Reparations Mission to what would become North Korea in 1946 and photographs from the Mission's visit to Manchuria that same year. There is also a great deal of material relating to the creation and the progress of the Santee-Cooper Power and Navigation Project from 1933-1941, including of photographs of historic homes in the inundation area, and minutes of the Potsdam Conference, Paris Peace Conference, and meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers from 1945-1946. Title: Inventory of the Francis C. Turner Papers 1929-1997

Francis C. Turner (1908-1999) was born in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Texas A & M University in 1929 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He worked as a highway engineer for the Bureau of Public Roads, earning a professional degree in civil engineering from Texas A & M University in 1940. Turner was selected to work on the Alaska Highway Project in 1943. From 1946 until 1949 Turner helped restore roads and organize a highway department in the Philippines, serving as coordinator of the Philippine Rehabilitation Program by 1949. Upon his return to the United States, he became Assistant to Bureau of Public Roads Chief Thomas H. McDonald. In 1954 Turner was appointed Executive Secretary to President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Advisory Committee on a National Highway Program, or Clay Committee, (so-called after its Chair, General Lucius D. Clay). Turner's work on this committee is widely acknowledged as being instrumental in the passage of the highway legislation that established and provided for the funding of a national interstate highway system. Turner continued to work for the Bureau of Public Roads and its successor, the Federal Highway Administration, for the rest of his career, and ultimately headed these organizations. In 1967 President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Turner as Director of the Bureau of Public Roads, an occasion Johnson may have commemorated by giving Turner an inscribed copy of his book . Later, President Richard M. Nixon appointed Turner as Federal Highway Administrator (1969). Although Turner retired from this post in 1972, he remained active in the service of the highway program for the rest of his life. Influential in transportation circles, Turner was a member of an elite circle of transportation experts known as the and was also in constant demand as a consultant by agencies such as the Transportation Research Board and the International Road Federation. Perpetually researching issues relating to the transportation field, Turner remained a champion of highway causes until his death in a Goldsboro, North Carolina hospice facility in 1999.Series 1. through Series 4. of the Francis C. Turner Papers include highway engineering reports written for the Bureau of Public Roads, Clay Committee papers dating from the 1950s hearings on the development of a national interstate highway program, and speeches, publications, correspondence, and research notes generated by his career as a federal highway official. The bulk of the Turner's post-retirement and consulting work materials are found in Series 5 through Series 9, including maps, photographs, research notes and manuscript drafts for a three-year study he and Harmer E. Davis conducted for the International Road Federation. The study, (1977), compares transportation needs in urban areas in fourteen countries, including the United States. Another large portion of the papers found in Series 7. contains papers related to Turner's membership in various associations. Throughout his lifetime Turner remained devoted to groups such as the Highway Users Federation and the American Association of State Highway Officials. Correspondence, speeches, and conference notes related to these associations reflect his continued involvement in the transportation field almost until the year of his death. The Papers also include correspondence, transcripts, and drafts of several reports recording the history of the interstate highway, a subject for which Turner was a popular informant. The most extensive project is a study by the Public Works Historical Society, commissioned by the American Public Works Association and the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials. This is a transcript of two oral history interviews of General Lucius D. Clay. Clay began the first interview by talking about his military association with Dwight D. Eisenhower and the close friendship between the Clay and Eisenhower families. The interview then moved on to the move to persuade Eisenhower to run for President in 1952, the process of securing the Republican nomination and the subsequent Presidential campaign. Clay also discussed the early development of Eisenhower's political skills during his military career, Clay's governmental experiences, Eisenhower's leadership methods, and Eisenhower's attitude toward technology and research. Clay also discussed the attitude of the troops towards Eisenhower and a number of prominent military and political leaders from World War II. The second interview began with a description of the events following the 1952 election and the selection of Cabinet and White House staff members, and Clay's contacts with Eisenhower during the turnover period. Additional subjects include the removal of wage and price controls, Eisenhower's perception of the labor movement, Clay's later role as an unofficial advisor to Eisenhower, and the importance of the Eisenhower stag dinners. He also talked about Eisenhower's decision-making process, Eisenhower's attitude toward the scientific community, Eisenhower's philosophy regarding the use of the Cabinet and an evaluation of Eisenhower as an administrator. Regarding his own role in the administration, Clay talked about his chairmanship of the Committee to Develop an Interstate Highway Program and his continuing relationship with Eisenhower. Correspondence, writings, diaries, and subject files of a Pulitzer Prize-winning news commentator, author, and foreign correspondent who was best known for his coverage of the Weimar Republic, Nazi Germany, and World War II. General correspondence, 1911-1968, dates primarily from the decade 1945-1955, and is chiefly made up of letters from Germany. Among the few significant pre-war letters are exchanges with his family and several Associated Press executives. Also present are a number of literary manuscripts sent to Lochner by such people as Jakob Goldschmidt, Hans Hinrichs, Betty Hirsch, and James Mooney. Most of the correspondence is in German. A large body of articles, speeches, radio scripts, and book manuscripts document his journalistic career. News articles written for the Federated Press and the Associated Press cover the period 1920-1941, and deal mainly with Germany before and during World War II. There are also copies of stories filed by other members of the Berlin AP Bureau, 1940-1941. Free-lance magazine and newspaper articles and speeches span Lochner's entire career and related to his interest in the international student movement, opposition to World War I, Herbert Hoover, and the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod. Radio scripts include news commentaries written for the NBC Pacific Coast Network, 1943-1944, and Broadcast Editorial Reports, 1960-1962. There are also drafts, notes, and reviews of "Tycoons and Tyrants," "Henry Ford--America's Don Quixote," "Always the Unexpected," "What about Germany?," and "Herbert Hoover and Germany," and correspondence relating to his editing of "The Goebbels Diaries" and the resultant controversy with the Office of Alien Property. Subject files concern other phases in Lochner's varied career, including work for the United Nations Expert Committee on Public Information, the Ford Peace Expedition, the Hoover Economic Mission to Germany and Austria, and the Overseas Press Club. The papers of George Smith Patton (1885-1945) span the years 1807-1979, with the bulk of the papers concentrated from 1904 to 1945. The collection documents Patton's military career, including his attendance at the United States Military Academy at West Point, 1904-1909; his service on the Mexican border as a member of John J. Pershing's Mexican Punitive Expedition, 1916-1917; his service as an aide-de-camp to Pershing and later as a tank commander in World War I, 1917-1919; and his military career from 1938 to 1945. The majority of the papers chronicle Patton's World War II service and his success as one of America's most skillful combat commanders of armored troops. The papers consist of eleven series: Diaries, Chronological File, Family Papers, Correspondence, Military Papers, Military Library, Maps, Photographs, Speeches and Writings File, Miscellany, and Oversize. Most of the series relate to Patton's personal and military activities and his leadership in the development and tactical use of the tank as a combat weapon. Additional papers concerning Patton's service in World War I are in the Chester Fritz Library of the University of North Dakota located near Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Diaries, 1910-1945, illustrate Patton's activities during the Mexican Punitive Expedition, World War I, and World War II. The volumes, particularly from 1942 to 1945, document Patton's daily activities and observations and reveal his candor about himself, personally and professionally. They include information about American ground combat operations in the campaign for North Africa, the invasion of Sicily, the liberation of France, and the final assault on Germany. Annotated volumes covering World War II often contain additional detail expanding on the original volume entries. The original diaries are dated through 24 March 1945, while annotated transcripts continue to 3 December 1945. The Library did not receive the latter portion of the original diaries. Additional topics include Patton's honeymoon trip to Europe in 1910 and his fox hunting activities, 1932-1935. The Chronological File, 1901-1977, provides an overview of Patton's life, serving as a combination diary-scrapbook consisting mainly of diary entries, correspondence, memoranda, and reports. Approximately one half of the series is in transcript form. The originals of these transcripts are located in other series. This series also contains original items, primarily correspondence, that do not appear in any other series. The Family Papers, 1857-1979, consist mainly of Patton's letters to his wife, Beatrice Banning Ayer Patton, and his father, George S. Patton (1856-1927). Early letters chronicle Patton's struggle as a student at West Point. His letters to his wife are detailed and, like the diaries, contain frank assessments of commanders, subordinates, and military operations. Patton shared not only his achievements with his wife but also some of the negative incidents that affected his career, such as the reaction in November 1943 when the press reported that he had slapped two soldiers suffering battle fatigue in Sicily and his remarks in a speech in Knutsford, England, in April 1944 omitting inclusions of Russia as one of the countries likely to rule the postwar world with the United States and Great Britain. Both incidents threatened his career and almost resulted in his removal from the war. Also in the Family Papers are correspondence of Beatrice Patton and an autobiographical account of Patton's memories of his father. There is a significant amount of printed matter of George H. Smith, Patton's step-grandfather, concerning the Civil War battle of New Market, Virginia. Papers in the Correspondence series, 1903-1945, include incoming and outgoing correspondence between Patton and his staff, commanders, government officials, friends, and the general public. Because many of Patton's friends and colleagues were in the military, there is a significant amount of material in the chronological correspondence that relates to military matters. The official correspondence documents the planning of various combat operations, particularly for the Allied invasion of Sicily and D-Day planning for France and reflects Patton's varied duties as a commander. The topical correspondence includes fan mail, inquiries on casualties, furloughs and discharges, the slapping incidents in Sicily, and Christmas and get-well letters sent to Patton after his automobile accident in December 1945. The Military Papers, 1903-1976, consist of administrative files, Patton's personnel file, and a subject file. The bulk of the series illustrates Patton's duties while a combat commander from 1942 to 1945. The files include orders, citations, memoranda, speeches, training instructions, policy and procedural material, and reports concerning units Patton commanded. Speeches made by Patton to his troops during World War II were originally filed in the Military Papers, and this order has been retained. Duplicates of some of these speeches are filed in the Speeches and Writings File. Documents relating to Patton's personnel file include both personal and official papers. The official papers are included in a microfilm copy of Patton's file in the records of the Department of the Army. Prominent topics featured in the subject file are the cavalry, casualty information, denazification of Germany, displaced persons, and tanks. Much of the material relating to tanks concerns the development of that vehicle and the tactics of armored warfare. The series also contains material relating to Patton's death and funeral. The Military Library series, 1907-1947, includes class publications from West Point, intelligence and campaign reports, and other material relating to military tactics. The majority of the series consists of campaign reports pertaining to France and Germany. Items in the Maps series, 1906-1945, reflect Patton's interest in cartography. Most of the items are situation maps of the European theater and commemorative maps of the United States Third Army's operations in Europe. A map of Western Europe, marked by Patton in March 1944 prior to the development of campaign plans, illustrates with remarkable accuracy the projected route that the Third Army would take in its advance across France and Germany. The Photographs series, 1864-1958, consist primarily of items relating to Patton's military career, although there are a few family photographs in the "Miscellaneous" folders. Locations featured in the World War II pictures include North Africa, Sicily, England, France, and Germany. Also well represented are Patton's years at the military academy at West Point, his tenure at Fort Meade, Maryland, and his service with the Mexican Punitive Expedition. World War II "Miscellaneous" folders include photographs, some autographed, of Patton's superiors and fellow officers. Papers in the Speeches and Writings File, 1900-1947, consist chiefly of articles, speeches, reports, lectures, book reviews, memoranda, poetry, and memoirs. A few writings of others interfiled in this series with Patton's texts are listed in a partial index compiled by Patton. Prominent topics featured in Patton's writings include the saber, the cavalry, mechanization, tanks, and tank tactics. Patton's writings illustrate his early interest in armored warfare and indicate his belief in the tank as an important combat weapon long before its success in World War II. A 1937 paper entitled "Surprise" includes Patton's prediction of an attack by Japan on Pearl Harbor. The Miscellany series, 1911-1966, includes biographical information, certificates and citations, reports, and printed matter relating chiefly to Patton's participation in the pentathlon in the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, his interests in fencing and swordsmanship, and his attendance at the Mounted Service School, Fort Riley, Kansas. Also documented in the series are the various medals and honors awarded Patton during his lifetime and posthumously. The Oversize series, 1807-1951, consists principally of maps, overlays, photograph albums, and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, and other printed matter. The President departed Germany in the afternoon and returned to Washington, D.C., where he hosted a Diplomatic Reception at the White House that evening.
