American author, publisher, master craftsman; died on the Lusitania, May 1915.
American author and lecturer; founder of The Roycroft Shop which produced furniture, various publications and fine editions of the classics. Hubbard died, along with his wife, Alice Moore Hubbard, during the sinking of the Lusitania.
Elbert Green Hubbard (1865-1915) was an American writer, editor, and publisher. He spent years as a successful businessman and salesman before becoming involved in the arts and crafts movement. In 1895, he founded the "Roycroft," a craft colony and private press in East Aurora, New York. He soon became famous for his writing and enterprising philosophy and was also a very popular lecturer.
Elbert Hubbard was an author, publisher, businessman, and eccentric. He is perhaps best remembered for establishing the Roycroft Shop, an artist's commune in Aurora, New York. In addition to running the commune, he wrote, edited, and published numerous works via the Roycroft Press; perhaps the best-known of these were the journal The Philistine, and the pamphlets Little Journeys, somewhat philosophical sketches on a variety of topics.
Author, editor, and lecturer who was killed on the Lusitania in 1915.
Author and lecturer, proprietor of the Roycroft Shop, publisher of de luxe editions of the classics, located in East Aurora, N.Y.
American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher. He was an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement and is, perhaps, most famous for his essay A Message to Garcia.
Founder of the Roycroft Shops in East Aurora, New York, which were noted for bookbinding, printing, woodworking, and other crafts, Hubbard was also the editor of The Philistine and author of many books and pamphlets. Leadership of the Roycroft Fraternity passed to Elbert (Bert) Hubbard II (1882- ) when the elder Hubbard perished in the sinking of the Lusitania.
Author, editor and master craftsman; employee in advertising and sales dept. of Larkin Soap Company. Founded the Roycroft Shop in East Aurora in 1895.
Little Journeys is a series of books written by Elbert Hubbard. Each title focuses on the biography of famous men and women in their home settings. The publication of Little Journeys marks the beginning of the Roycroft Press. In researching this series, Hubbard traveled to Europe in the early 1890s. While there, he became influenced by artist William Morris. After returning to the States, Hubbard was unable to find a publisher for his books; like Morris, he decided to set up his own private press.
Author and lecturer.
Hubbard was an author, publicist, and merchandiser. A prolific writer, much of his material appeared in his monthly, THE PHILISTINE. Hubbard was a passenger on the Lusitania when it was torpedoed in 1915.

Taber, Harry Persons, b. 1865. Harry Persons Taber papers, 1875-1947.
Title:
Harry Persons Taber papers, 1875-1947.
Collection of materials from Harry Persons Taber, a founding member of the Roycroft Shop and editor of the Philistine journal. Includes correspondence, writings, biographical records, and Roycroft publications. Although not comprehensive, this collection offers important documentation of the personal life and professional career of Harry Persons Taber, and is comprised of three series: Biographical, Roycroft, and Writings. Notable biographical records include the 1881 diary Taber kept at age 16, recording some of his early printing efforts, and a scrapbook of correspondence and clippings with broad coverage from 1898-1937. Roycorft records are notable for the aggregation of publications written or contributed to by Taber, including the journal the Philistine, broadsides, and a collection of printed and hand-drawn motifs. (Note: many of the Roycroft publications are fragile; see librarian for handling). A reproduction of the original Taber-Elbert Hubbard agreement, as well as correspondence and articles regarding Hubbard and Stephen Crane are included. Series III contains typescripts and copies of Taber's numerous articles for newspapers and journals, proofsheets for Ezra and me, and an unknown typewritten manuscript, possibly written by Roycroft contributor Paul Allan.
