This collection consists of photocopies of fifty-four letters from the microfilmed collection, Vanderpoel-Treadwell Papers. These letters, dating from 1826 to 1861, are primarily addressed to John Van Buren or Susan (Foster) Vanderpoel. Correspondents include M.H. Duer, Eliza R. Yates, Abraham Van Buren, Edwin Croswell, Washington Irving, Charles E. Anderson, Aaron Vanderpoel, William C. Rives, J.B. Chapman, Roger B. Taney, Smith Thompson Van Buren, Delia T. Parnell, C. Frothingham, J. Howard March, D.C. Le Roy, Silas Wright, Thomas Farrington (writing to Silas Wright), George F. Thomson, A. Vanderpoel, Jr., Ellen A. (Foster) Tabb (sister of Susan Vanderpoel), Henry W. Tabb, Adams Foster (father of Susan Vanderpoel), Isaac Vanderpoel, Reverend Joseph R. Jones, Beverley Robinson, Jr., James Price, and some unidentified correspondents. Two of the letters are to Martin Van Buren. Also included are two codicils to wills of James Vanderpoel, signed by Moses Patten, Surrogate of Albany (John Van Buren is listed as an executor), a passport to John Van Buren as attache to the American Legation in French from A. Vail, a bank check to "J.S." and a note to the cashier at Manhattan Bank. Most of the correspondence deals with personal and family matters, John Van Buren's trips to Europe, the Anti-Rent War, and various legal topics.

The Samuel Francis Du Pont Papers include correspondence with more than 1,500 individuals. There is a good deal of official and semi-official correspondence describing naval practices and policies as well as Du Pont's career. Of particular interest are letters from British diplomats and naval officers during the 1840s and 50s describing the operations of the British Navy. Letters received from William B. Reed, American minister to China, document the negotiations leading up to the Treaty of Tientsin which opened up China to western trade. Letters from American missionaries Samuel Wells and William and Edward Syle describe the missionary movement in China and efforts to eradicate the opium trade. The files also contain correspondence reflecting Du Pont's role in the Naval Efficiency Board and the reform movement which sought to modernize the navy as it moved into the age of steam.

Numerous photographs include images of the house and grounds and portraits of acquaintances and members of the Martin family. Text includes transcribed copies of Martin family correspondence and lengthy descriptions of marriages and Christmas celebrations held at the Martin home, including an account of the marriage of Emily Martin and Emory Upton written by Grenville Tremaine, as well as a description of his own marriage to Lily Martin.
