Actress and Singer Photograph Collection, ca. 1850 - 1930, 1850-1930
Title:
Actress and Singer Photograph Collection, ca. 1850 - 1930 1850-1930
Actress and Singer Photograph Collection, ca. 1850 - 1930 contains 308 card photographs, cabinet cards, carte-de-vistes, enlarged studio portraits, photographic miniatures, and halftones. These publicity images are of some of the most celebrated female thespians and opera singers from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. In San Francisco, female performers were welcomed with open arms due to the majority of the population being male, yet only true talents like Lotta Crabtree and Adah Isaacs Menken prospered. Many of the photos in the collection are the product of popular San Francisco photographic studios. The collection is not a gift from any one person; rather it is a group of photos complied from various donors. The collection is organized alphabetically by actresses' last name and are in fairly good condition.

Mason Opera House playbills, 1912-1918
This collection consists of a consecutive run of approximately 175 playbills from 1912 through 1918 for dramatic and musical performances held at the Mason Opera House in Los Angeles. During these six years, a number of Broadway musicals were performed at the Mason, featuring noted international figures such as Maude Adams, Isadora Duncan, Minnie Maddern Fiske, Anna Held, Helena Modjeska, and Anna Pavlova. The full-page playbills, which include some folding playbills, are mounted on 171 leaves of a contemporary ledger. The playbills were published for the Mason by the Program Publishing Company of Los Angeles through 1916 and later by the Mason Program Company. They were apparently distributed by the Peters Bill Posting Company of Santa Ana, California. Throughout the ledger are holograph notes in different hands recording accounting information, personal names, and the names of bill posting companies in the Los Angeles area.

Title:
Ellen K. Lee collection on Helena Modjeska and Orange County, 1874-2005.
This collection comprises materials collected by Ellen K. Lee, Orange County historian and Helena Modjeska expert, during the course of her research from 1965 until her death in 2006. The materials document Ellen Lee's research, Helena Modjeska's life in the United States, and Orange County history during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Lee collected many forms of materials during her research, and many images and textual source materials are reproductions of items housed at other repositories in the United States. Additionally, Lee's collection includes research notes on various topics, file indexes, chronologies, correspondence, writings, and other materials created or produced by Lee during her work on the Board of the Helena Modjeska Foundation. Lee 's collection includes brochures, pamphlets, reproductions (photographic), printouts, cabinet cards, unsigned ink sketches, videos, compact disks, negatives, slides, handwritten and typescript research notes, transcripts, manuscripts, clippings, and myriad photocopies of book excerpts, correspondence, photographs, clippings, journal and magazine articles, and programs. This accession comprises Ellen Lee⁰́₉s research files on Orange County history and includes papers, photographic prints, image reproductions, negatives, prints, drawings, sheet music, transcripts, correspondence, legal records, and miscellaneous ephemera. The collection also includes materials labeled ⁰́₋from plastic carton⁰́₊ that are not of traditional size or format and include binders; two California Gold videos about Modjeska; a Flat Box with loose files and oversized sheet music reproductions; and a small box with copy negatives.
