Charles James Thomas was an English actor and manager. He was born into a theatrical family, but studied and practiced architecture until his father's death, when he took over his managerial responsibilities at the Adelphi Theatre. He achieved success as a performer at the Adelphi, and later at Covent Garden and the Lyceum, but his productions consistently lost money. After retirement and the death of his first wife, he remarried and returned to performing and to financial and professional success. He is remembered as one of the leading light comedy actors of his day.
