Dunsany, Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, Baron, 1878-1957
Variant namesBaron Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett Dunsany was an author, aristocrat, adventurer, chessmaster, and soldier; he is probably best known for writing fantasy fiction, ghost stories, and drama under the name Lord Dunsany. Raised on the family estate in County Meath, Ireland, he was influenced by Greek mythology and the Bible. A member of the Coldstream Guards, he fought in the Boer War, World War I, and the Easter Rebellion. A prolific and diverse writer, he is considered an early master of high fantasy for the believable kingdoms he created and the vivid characters that inhabit them.
