F. Addison Porter, born 1859 in Dixmont, Me., was a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music (NEC) in 1884 and studied with A.D. Turner, Stephen Emery, and George W. Chadwick. He was on the faculty of NEC as a professor of piano and later as head of the piano normal department from 1859-1941.
