The Reverend William Chauncy Langdon: Episcopal clergyman, who as a layman was one of the co-founders of the Young Men's Christian Association. Before his 1858 ordination he was chief examiner in the US Patent Office. Langdon worked for and wrote extensively on church unity.

William Chauncy Langdon conceived the idea of bringing isolated Christian associations into a bond of union. He initiated a joint conference in Paris for associations in all countries, as well as a system of international correspondence and cooperation. He was the first corresponding secretary for the Young Men's Christian Association, established in July, 1852.
