Shelby College
Chartered by the Kentucky General Assembly in 1798 as the Shelbyville Academy. It was reorganized and rechartered in 1836 as Shelby College and came under the auspices of the Protestant Church in 1841. The college provided liberal arts and military training and expanded to offer scientific school for surveyors, civil engineers, astronomers, pharmacists, and physicians. The school closed in 1868.
