Biographical notes:
In academic circles, John R. Commons is most remembered for his histories of the labor movement and as founder of what is commonly called the "Wisconsin School" of labor history. As an economist and student of government he was responsible for the design of reforms during the Progressive era and after, which drastically changed the role of government and paved the way for the New Deal.
