John Tee-Van (1897-1967) worked for the New York Zoological Society for 51 years, starting as Assistant Keeper of Birds in 1911 and working his way up to General Director of the New York Zoological Park and Aquarium in 1956, and General Director Emeritus in 1962. This collection consists of Tee-Van's papers relating to the Office of the General Director (1939-1962), his trip to China in 1941 to bring back two giant pandas, and the Zoo's proposed Conservation Exhibit (1942-1958). The collection consists of correspondence, speeches, administrative files, photographs (including color transparencies), news clippings, journals, datebooks, architectural proposals, and other ephemera. The collection also contains correspondence from William Beebe (Director, Department of Tropical Research) and Fairfield Osborn (President, New York Zoological Society).

The inauguration of James R. Killian as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's tenth president on April 2, 1949, was preceded by the two-day "Mid-Century Convocation on the Social Implications of Scientific Progress" on March 31 and April 1. The collection contains thirty-seven 7 1/2 ips 7-inch reel-to-reel audio tapes of the three general assemblies and six panel discussions held during the 1949 midcentury celebrations; tapes of the inauguration ceremonies; 1949 video footage of the convocation; and a microfilm copy of a scrapbook on the convocation. The collection contains materials compiled by John E. Burchard for his book , including texts of the panel presentations. Harold Cornelius Palmer (1918-1998) joined the staff of the New York Zoological Society in 1961. Palmer served as Director of the Development Fund Campaign and as Assistant to Society President Fairfield Osborn. From 1964 until his retirement in 1980, Palmer held the office of Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees. The bulk of this collection consists of correspondence and subject files dealing with New York Zoological Society administrative matters, 1902-1983 (bulk 1937-1976), New York Aquarium and Marine Labs, 1944-1968, and Animal Research and Conservation activities, 1927-1975 (bulk 1952-1971). There are many records regarding the Institute for Research in Animal Behavior and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources. Also included are records regarding the NYZS fine arts collection and works by wildlife artist Carl Rungius. The remainder of the records, most predating Palmer's tenure, was transferred to his office upon the death of Fairfield Osborn in 1969. Osborn's records consist of correspondence and subject files dealing with Society matters, 1935-1967, Conservation Foundation activities, 1949-1954, and African wildlife conservation, circa 1956-1965. The planning, building, and development of the New York Aquarium at Coney Island and the Osborn Laboratories of Marine Sciences are also the subjects of extensive correspondence and reports. There is also correspondence between Osborn and Parks Commissioner Robert Moses.
