Title:
Album of Joseph W. Revere, 1848-1870.
The album, probably written about 1870, is a collection of memories and stories from Revere's life. The majority of the album focuses on two points in Revere's life, his time in California before and during the gold rush, and his experience in the Civil War. The album specifically covers the following subjects: Revere's experiences on the USS Constitution in 1834; Revere's life as a rancho owner in Mexican California before the gold rush; the California Indians; Revere's travels throughout California and Mexico; his time in the Mexican army; his voyage to California through Panama in 1848; Revere's experiences in the gold mines; and Revere's service in the Civil War including his experience in Second Bull Run, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. The album also includes eighteen illustrations, watercolors and sketches, done by Revere to illustrate the text. These sketches include California landscapes, and scenes of life in San Francisco, Panama, and the gold mining camps. There are also a few sketches of scenes from Revere's experience in the Civil War. The last few pages of the album are draft pages for the beginning of Revere's book, Keel and saddle. Also included in the album is a carte-de-visite of Revere.

Letters to Henri Moulin and others : ALS, 1838-1839.
Letters from the director of the health service for the French fleet that was sent to San Juan de Ulúa to enforce payment of reparations to French nationals in Mexico (the "Pastry War") Two were written to Ferré's wife and daughters, the remainder addressed to his "son," Henri Moulin, a Parisian lawyer left in charge of the writer's domestic affairs and apparently the widower of one of Ferré's daughters. The papers deal in part with preparations for the naval expedition, seizure of San Juan de Ulúa, French-Mexican peace treaty, the civil war in Mexico, political conditions in Portugal, and Anglo-Mexican relations, but also contain much personal material. Title:
Edmundo O'Gorman collection, 1542-[19--].
Testimonies, correspondence, church and government documents, chronicles and histories, legal documents, memoirs, genealogies, and literary manuscripts from Mexico collected and arranged by Edmundo O'Gorman. The collection is focused on central Mexico and contains documents dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries (approximately 75 percent are from the 17th and 18th centuries). The documents concern the activities of prominent Mexican figures, families and property owners; the Catholic church and religious orders, primarily the Franciscans and the Jesuits; the treatment of Indians and blacks during the colonial period; and legal topics such as property, inheritances, and contracts. There are also many historical documents concerning the state of Pachuca and the city of Puebla. The most substantial of the family records are 66 documents (v. 1-66) concerning the Condado del Valle de Orizaba, dating from 1542-1865. Two significant 19th century documents are the "Memoria sobre la organización del Ejército Mexicano, 1853" (E.1), created to honor Antonio López de Santa Anna; and the "Expediente sobre Mariano Arista, 1816-1851" (A.4), containing Aristaʹs military appointments from early in his career and documents concerning many key contemporary military and political figures.

The third and fourth are circular letters describing the large number ofdeserters at the Battle of Matamoros, and the fifth, dated June 1, 1846,records that General Arista has retreated to Linares, Nuevo Leon.

Title:
Manuscript and letters of Electus Backus, 1848.
The manuscript relates Backus' experiences with the First Infantry Regiment during the Mexican War, from his departure from Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, in May 1846, until he left Vera Cruz in July 1848 to return home to the United States. Backus describes in detail his regiment's march; their occupations of Burita, Reinoso, Veracruz and Mexico City; the Battle of Monterrey; his time in charge of the Castle of San Juan de Ulloa; and the violence which continued after the official end of the war. Backus specifically mentions Winfield Scott, Zachary Taylor, Mariano Arista, Antonio Canales, and Antonio López de Santa Anna. At the end of the manuscript are several newspaper clippings regarding Electus Backus and the Mexican War. Accompanying the manuscript are two letters written by Backus further describing his experience in the Mexican War. The letters are addressed to Senator Alpheus Felch and to Backus' father-in-law, General Hugh Brady. The manuscript and letters may have been written by Backus to support his request for a promotion. There are also several sketches of Monterrey, which are drawn by Backus.

Paredes y Arrillaga, Mariano, 1797-1849. Mariano Paredes y Arrillaga collection, 1825-1876 (bulk 1840-1849).
Title:
Mariano Paredes y Arrillaga collection, 1825-1876 (bulk 1840-1849).
The collection documents political and historical developments in 19th-century Mexico, primarily the 1840s. Paredes' association with these events is reflected in correspondence dating from 1825 to 1849. Correspondents include Antonio López de Santa Anna, Mariano Arista, José Joaquín de Herrera, Luis Parres, José María Tornel, and family members Josefa Cortés de Paredes, Manuel and José María Cortés, and Agustín Paredes y Arrillaga. Also present in the collection are a number of anonymous letters; many appear to be copies of letters by Paredes, while others are signed with pseudonyms. Among the correspondence are occasional financial and legal documents, registers of correspondence, literary productions, notes, and lists. Materials dating from after Paredes' death until 1867 relate to various topics including Mexico's response to the European intervention and the personal affairs of individuals whose relationship to Paredes is undetermined. Undated items include a list of names appearing in the collection and letters addressed to Paredes as president of Mexico, presumably written in 1846.
