Letter sent from Editorial Department, The Century Magazine, Union Square, New York. Johnson indicates that the Century magazine does not see a way to invite Winter's father to submit his volume or recollections for the magazine and for book publication. Thanks him for returning her poem with praise. Tells him of various editors (Mr. Marie, William Hayes Ward) and circumstances under which they have rejected it. She now plans to have the volume published after her death and give the copyright and proceeds to the Diocese of New Hampshire as the church has been everything to her. Her advanced age (77) has taught her to plan first for today as every year seems like the last, but her pioneer faculty makes her determined to bring enterprises to their consummation. Discusses the matter of the Laighton birthplace: Mr. Hachett and others are interested beyond your impression. Sends regards to his son Jefferson Winter. Includes an envelope.
