Dunning, Philip, 1890-1968. Philip Hart Dunning papers, 1915-1968.
Title:
Philip Hart Dunning papers, 1915-1968.
The collection contains many of Philip Hart Dunning's personal scripts which include play, radio, TV, and film scripts, one novel, and a few short stories. While the collection represents a large portion of his work, it is by no means complete. A small amount of related material such as preliminary notes, correspondence, contracts, clippings, etc. is included in the collection and filed according to play title with the script. In cases where there is no script, a title is represented only by a synopsis. The collection comprises 94 titles in all, including some associated items, at least one of which is dated after Dunning's death. In a few cases there is more than one version of a given title. Many of the scripts are original typescripts, however, most are copies, and most have annotations.

Lucille Lortel papers
Title:
Lucille Lortel papers
The papers of Lucille Lortel relate the details of her life and career from teen years to her death in 1999, and include correspondence, production files, scripts, programs, production photographs, personal and family photographs, organization files, clippings, memorabilia, and scrapbooks. Lucille Lortel's life spanned the twentieth century, so in addition to providing details of her family and personal life her papers encompass many aspects of the theatrical history of her era. Lortel is credited with fostering the Off-Broadway movement and providing a forum for avant-garde and experimental work at her Theatre de Lys. Lortel's productions at the White Barn and the ANTA Matinee Series at the Theatre de Lys brought works by Jean Genet, Sean O'Casey, Athol Fugard, and others to a wider audience. Many of these productions are represented in the collection by correspondence, programs, photographs and clippings. Over the years Lortel also worked closely with several non-profit theaters as a donor and mentor. Her affiliations with Circle in the Square, Circle Repertory Company, Goodspeed Opera House, Yale Repertory Theatre, and other companies are documented in the organization files.

Title:
Harold Prince papers, 1954-1999.
Harold Prince (1928-) is an American director and producer, primarily of musicals, but also of plays, operas and, occasionally, films. His Broadway career, which began in the 1950s and continues to the present day, has earned him 21 Tony Awards, more than any other individual. The Harold Prince papers (1954-1999) consist of administrative files and production files documenting his professional life as a director and producer, and a small amount of personal papers. Administrative files illustrate the day-to-day operations of Prince's production office. Production files contain detailed information on virtually all of Prince's shows from The Pajama Game (1954) to Parade (1999). Materials include business records, subject files, ledgers, contracts, professional and personal correspondence, scripts and drafts, photographs, programs, publicity materials, awards, costume sketches, set designs, lighting plots, and scrapbooks.

Actors' Fund of America Records, 1880-2005
Title:
Actors' Fund of America Records 1880-2005
Founded in 1882, largely through the leadership of Harrison Grey Fiske, the Actors’ Fund of America is a human services organization that makes available aid to professionals in the performing arts and entertainment industry. In general, the Actors’ Fund acts as a safety net, offering a range of social and health-related services for members of the performing arts community who are in need or crisis. The Fund maintains a home for the elderly with an extended care nursing facility, runs the Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic in New York City, and directs a number of other programs and initiatives, including the Actors Work Program, the AIDS Training and Education Project and the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative. Over the years the Fund has raised money to support its programs through annual galas, benefit performances of theatrical productions, fairs, bazaars, auctions, and fundraising drives. The collection includes minutes, annual reports, and general subject files of the Actors’ Fund from its founding to 2005. There is substantial documentation of fundraising activities, including files on the planning of benefit performances and lavishly illustrated souvenir programs. A series of scrapbooks, comprised mostly of clippings and printed ephemera about the Actors’ Fund and its benefit performances, also includes obituaries of theater professionals and memorabilia collected by individuals associated with the Fund. The collection also contains records entrusted to the Fund by individuals or families and material produced by related organizations, for example, the Basil Rathbone Family Papers and records of the Catholic Actors Guild and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. NOTE: This collection is housed offsite and advance notice is required for use.

Title:
Moss Hart and Kitty Carlisle papers, 1922-1962, 1988.
Papers of Moss Hart (1904-1961) and Kitty Carlisle (1910-2007), a noted playwright-director and his wife, an actress and television personality. Manuscript and published copies of Hart's major works, some of which were written in collaboration with George S. Kaufman and Irving Berlin, include the plays "The American Way" (1939), "Christopher Blake" (1946), "The Climate of Eden" (1952), "George Washington Slept Here" (1940), "Jubilee" (1935), "Lady in the Dark" (1941), "Light Up the Sky" (1948), "The Man Who Came to Dinner" (1939), "Merrily We Roll Along" (1934), "Once in a Lifetime" (1930), "You Can't Take It With You" (1936), and "Winged Victory" (1943); the motion pictures "The Eddie Duchin Story" (Col., 1954), "Gentleman's Agreement" (20th Century-Fox, 1947), and "A Star is Born" (Warner Bros., 1954); and his autobiography "Act One" (1959). There is also a script for "My Fair Lady" (1956), which Hart directed on Broadway. For several of the above titles there are also notes, business records, clippings, and photographs. Of more personal interest are two diaries, the first kept by Hart during a world trip in 1935 while he wrote "Jubilee," and the second a journal of his theatrical activities and personal life during 1953 and 1954. Related to Kitty Carlisle's stage and screen career are clipping scrapbooks, 1932-1946 (on microfilm), photographs, and a draft version of her autobiography "Kitty" (1988). On film are the Harts' appearances at the 1961 Academy Award ceremonies and on "Person to Person" (CBS) in 1959. The tape recordings concern a 1960 discussion of Broadway musicals between Hart and Brooks Atkinson.
