Unpublished report addressed to the Mexican Minister of War, Pedro María Anaya, in an attempt to justify his actions while in California and to explain the reasons for the revolutions that occurred during his rule and eventually led to his ouster from power as California's last Mexican governor. Micheltorena's narrative provides a unique view of political events in California on the eve of the American takeover. A manuscript cover for the report house in the oversize folder. These consist chiefly of contemporary copies. They include statements concerning financial matters; unsolicited testimonials from government officials and missionaries in California; correspondence with Sutter, Alvarado, Castro and Mariano Vallejo; a copy of the Treaty of Cahuenga; and a printed broadside issued by Micheltorena and dated July 30, 1844. The unsigned handwritten document in Spanish states that in the town of San José de Guadalupe, before the judge Antonio Mariá Pico, the citizen Guillermo Gulnak conveys land he owns in French Camp to Don Carlos Mariá Weber for the sum of 200 pesos, half silver and half goods. The land was originally acquired by title from Governor and Commandant General Manuel Micheltorena on Jan. 13, 1844. The letter futher states that documents were presented that prove the claim of ownership.

These 18 documents all relate to the development and history of San Luis Obispo, both the county and city. Seven of the documents are in Spanish, six of which deal with land ownership in San Luis Obispo including a document by Manuel Micheltorena (also signed by Pablo de la Guerra), and land appraisals by John Michael Price, the second mayor of San Luis Obispo. Also included is a letter by the first mayor of San Luis Obispo Jose Mariano Bonilla. The remaining eleven items concern the activities of the San Luis Obispo Committee of Vigilance. These documents include the committee's agreement, which includes each member's signature; meeting notes of the committee; financial statements; an examination of a witness; and sentences of individuals. There are also two letters by Joaquin Valenzuela (one is in Spanish), which were written the day before he was hung for several murders, and a letter by County Sheriff Caston to San Luis Obispo's Board of Supervisors, describing how the San Luis Obispo Committee of Vigilance destroyed the county jail making it impossible to hold prisoners. The criminal Pio Linares is also mentioned in one of the documents. These documents are facsimiles of material held at the San Luis Obispo Historical Society.
