Californias : Mexico City, 1845 August 31 / Man. de Micheltorena.

Unpublished report addressed to the Mexican Minister of War, Pedro María Anaya, in an attempt to justify his actions while in California and to explain the reasons for the revolutions that occurred during his rule and eventually led to his ouster from power as California's last Mexican governor. Micheltorena's narrative provides a unique view of political events in California on the eve of the American takeover. A manuscript cover for the report house in the oversize folder. These consist chiefly of contemporary copies. They include statements concerning financial matters; unsolicited testimonials from government officials and missionaries in California; correspondence with Sutter, Alvarado, Castro and Mariano Vallejo; a copy of the Treaty of Cahuenga; and a printed broadside issued by Micheltorena and dated July 30, 1844.
