Isunza, Francisco J. Conversacion ... and Viage al Paiz de las Ciencias ... : Mexico, 1769-[1787?].
Title:
Conversacion ... and Viage al Paiz de las Ciencias ... : Mexico, 1769-[1787?].
1. Conversacion joco-seria, críticio-apologética, satirico-moral ... sobre un Fárrago que ha salido cuyo título es: Carta â una Religiosa ..., Puebla, 1769-[1774?]. A satire in prose and verse, in the form of dialogues between the fictitious Justo Calzurrias, sacristan of a Carmelite convent, and Santiago Chapulín, porter of another convent. In two parts: the first, 1769, directed against the "Carta â una Religiosa Para su Desengaño y Dirección" of "Jorge Mastheophoro," i.e., José Oretega Moro, which severely criticized certain Puebla convents; the second, [1774?] discussing a proclamation of Viceroy Bucareli based on a royal order of 1774 which forbade perusal of the "Carta," and ordering all copies destroyed, but left open the way for circulation of a new and expurgated edition, likewise condemned by Calzurrias and Chapulín. Contains laudatory references to Bishop Palafox and other Puebla personages. According to Beristáin, Biblioteca Hispano Americana Septentrional, Vol. IV, p. 56, Oretega's "Carta" was not published until 1772. Possibly Ms. copies were circulated as early as 1769. 2. Viage al Paiz de las Ciencias. Bejamen que se diò a los cursantes de Philosophía de Francisco Isunza. [1787?]. A vejamen, or academic allegory in prose and verse, delivered by Ysunza as professor of philosophy in the Real y Tridentino Colegio Seminario (of Puebla?) at the graduation ceremonies of his students from a tripartite course begun in 1784; lists the graduates in order of scholarship; includes details of the author's student life in Mexico City; and mentions in a footnote an incident that occurred in 1786.

Mexican Records Collection, 1586-1857.
The chronologically-arranged documents demonstrate the range of legal, administrative, ecclesiastical, military, and genealogical records initiated by government representatives, lawyers, litigants, clerics, and laypersons from the late sixteenth century to the middle of the nineteenth century. The bulk of the records are legal and contractual, including wills, testimonies, inheritance cases, power of attorney contracts, and financial agreements between individuals and/or institutions. Administrative and ecclesiastical records mostly include appoiintments to secular and religious offices as well as some Inquisition and genealogical documents. Military records document pensions, compensations, and other payments made by the Royal Treasury to former military officers. Prominent persons and places of colonial and national Mexico and Guatemala are represented in the collection, such as Juan Francisco de Güemes y Horcasitas, first count of Revillagigedo and viceroy of New Spain from 1746-1755; Juan Nazario Peimbert, lawyer who proposed the formation of an Indian army in the event of a French invasion in 1809; and Juan Antonio de Vizarrón, Archbishop of Mexico and Viceroy of New Spain from 1734-1740.
