Autograph letters signed (2), dated : Berlin, 5 and 10 April 1905, to the same unidentified recipient, 1905 Apr. 5.
Concerning arrangements for the Graz music festival, saying [on 5 April] that as for the vocal soloists he is awaiting news from [Gustav] Mahler, that his Heldenleben must be removed from the program, mentioning Kienzl, Bruckner's Te Deum and F-minor Mass, Rösch, Dr. Marsop, Buck, the baritone Dressler, Amalie Löwe, Wolf, Reger, Peters, Schmid-Lindner, Mojsisowics, Püringer, [Josef?] Reiter, Naumann, Liszt, etc.; and reporting [on 10 April] that the board [of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Musikverein] is extremely annoyed at the frivolous manner in which the dishonest governing board of musicians of Graz has handled the planning of the festival, explaining in detail the changes to be made in the programs, saying that such amateurism as an opera performance with hidden orchestra--a nice satirical drama on the high ideals of "des grossen Bayreuthers" [i.e. Wagner]--will not be allowed by an organization [the Allgemeiner Deutscher Musikverein] that bears Liszt's name as founder, mentioning Bach, Beethoven, Berlioz, Oscar Noë, Hausegger, Willy Hess, [Julius] Weismann's Fingerhütchen, [Max von] Schillings's [Dem] Verklärten, Taubmann, Otto Lessmann, etc.

Title:
Moldenhauer archives at the Library of Congress, circa 1000-circa 1990.
The archives consist primarily of music (both manuscript and printed), correspondence, photographs, sound recordings, books, newspaper clippings, printed programs, drawings, and engravings. They span years from the Middle Ages to the present, and include documents of composers, musicians, and literary figures, among others. The music in the collection includes holograph scores or sketches, both published and unpublished, as well as a number of copyists' and printed scores, transcriptions, and arrangements by composers and musicians such as Beethoven, Bloch, Brahms, Chopin, Franck, Mendelssohn, Puccini, Rimsky-Korsakov, Schoenberg, Webern, and many others. Also included is historically important correspondence, such as letters of Metastasio and Handel. Some composers (Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern, for example) are represented by numerous manuscripts. A sample of other composers, musicians, and literary figures that are represented by both music and nonmusical materials includes George Auric, Johann Sebastian Bach, Béla Bartók, Hector Berlioz, Georges Bizet, Pierre Boulez, Anton Bruckner, Charles Burney, Feruccio Busoni, Claude Debussy, Frederick Delius, Federico García Lorca, Hermann Hesse, György Ligeti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Marice Ravel, Rainer Maria Rilke, Frank Wedekind, Kurt Weill, and Gioseffo Zarlino.

Title:
Moldenhauer Archives at the Library of Congress circa 1000-circa 1990
A sample of other composers, musicians, and literary figures that are represented by both music and nonmusical materials includes George Auric, Johann Sebastian Bach, Béla Bartók, Hector Berlioz, Georges Bizet, Pierre Boulez, Anton Bruckner, Charles Burney, Feruccio Busoni, Claude Debussy, Frederick Delius, Hermann Hesse, György Ligeti, Federico Garca Lorca, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Marice Ravel, Rainer Maria Rilke, Frank Wedekind, Kurt Weill, and Gioseffo Zarlino.

Correspondence, ca. 1879-1909.
Mahler, Gustav, 1860-1911. Correspondence, ca. 1879-1909.
Title:
Correspondence, ca. 1879-1909.
A total of 23 items are from Gustav Mahler; 6 of these are addressed to Alma Mahler: 3 are envelopes (of which the contents are not extant); 1 is a transcript of a telegram; and 2 are postcards, 1 of which was inserted by Alma between the pages of her diary at the entry for 25 June 1900 (see Tagebuch-Suiten ed. by Beaumont and Rode-Breymann, Suite 18). 1 item from Gustav Mahler is a draft of a poem (or song lyrics) noted on the reverse of a fragment of a letter from an unidentified correspondent. Two letters from Mahler to Anton Krisper (in 1879-1880) contain poems by him; several additional passages of poetry (in 1882 and 1884) are also included among Mahler's letters as transcribed by Alma (they were apparently written on the reverse of letters or drafts of letters). One letter from Mahler (incomplete transcript) is to an unidentified addressee. Included are a photocopy of a photograph of Rosa Sucher, with an inscription from her (for the original, see Photographs); and a transcript of an article by the music critic Josef Sittard for the Hamburgischer Correspondent, about Mahler's conducting in Hamburg.
