James De Lancey (1703-1760) served as chief justice of the Supreme Court of New York, and as lieutenant governor, and acting colonial governor of the Province of New York. The papers include charges brought against De Lancey in his capacity as chief justice of the Supreme Court of New York by "the Committee Upon the Administration of Justice," likely a response to the case of Crown v. John Peter Zenger, ca. 1735; letters from De Lancey to Robert Hunter Morris (1755-1758) and Robert Monckton (1758-1760) relating to the activities of French troops in Canada and Pennsylvania; and an 1759 proclamation inviting seamen to enlist for service on board His Majesty's ships at Halifax

Military journal and record books kept by and for John Winslow. The first vol., containing journal entries, copies of letters and orders to and from Winslow as Lt. Col. of the First Battalion of Provincial Forces under William Shirley on an expedition to dislodge the French from Nova Scotia, accounts, returns for clothing, supplies, and transports used, and a list of the Acadians removed, was kept primarily at Fort Beausejour and Grand Pre, N.S. from 10 Feb. 1755 - 22 Jan. 1756. The second and third vols. were kept by Winslow's secretary, Henry Leddel, from 18 Feb. - 2 Aug. 1756 and 17 Jly. 1756 - 29 Jan. 1757 (both with notes by Leddel of 23 Apr. 1757) during Winslow's expedition as commander in chief of the forces in defense of Crown Pt. and Lake Champlain, kept at Forts William Henry and Edward. The vols. contain copies of orders and letters to and from Winslow, accounts, returns, and other military records.
