Frontier Forts and Trails Survey carbon typescripts, circa 1935-1939.

The Frontier Forts and Trails Survey consists of three binders holding multiple carbon copies of typescript biographies, letters, and journals of three men who served in the French-Indian War, the Revolutionary War, and several battles against the Indians, 1747-1820. These miscellaneous transcriptions duplicate other copies held in the larger collection of transcriptions at the Pennsylvania Historical Commission. Volume one consists of transcriptions of biographies from published and manuscript sources about Captain Ebenezer Denny, officer and first mayor of Pittsburgh. It includes two copies of a transcription of a memoir written by William H. Denny from the letters and journals of Ebenezer Denny with transcriptions of letters to Denny. Most concern the Revolutionary War. The second volume consists of transcribed letters from Major Isaac Craig, 1793-1795, from Egle's Historical Register, and "Papers Relating to the Establishment of Presque Isle" from the Pennsylvania State Archives. Most concern relations with native nations. The third volume includes transcriptions of a biographical sketch of George Croghan from "History of Colonel Henry Bouquet," by Mary Darlington, and Croghan's journal for various dates, primarily copied from Reuben Gold Thwaites, Early Western Travels, and "Minutes of a Conference at Fort Pitt," by Croghan, dated 1768.
