Denny (March 11, 1761-July 21, 1822) was born in Carlisle (Pa.). He served as an officer in the Indian and Revolutionary wars. In 1793 he retired as a Capt. and married. He was re-instated as Major in 1794 and put in charge of the expedition to Le Boeuf and Presque Isle. In 1816 Denny became the first mayor of Pittsburgh (Pa.). A detailed biography is in his published journal entitled, "Military Journal of Major Ebenezer Denny," a copy of which is available at the Clarke Historical Library. Mifflin served as the first governor of Pennsylvania, 1790-1799.
