Unofficial and private correspondence between C. A. Harris, commissioner of Indian Affairs in Washington, D. C., and E. A. Hitchcock, military distributing officer in the Indian department in St. Louis, and others concerns the removal of Indians from Missouri Territory, treaties, conflicts between the military and Indian department, appropriations by Congress, delay in remittances and inaccurate accounts, padded muster rolls, transportation of goods, and the possible transfer of Hitchcock. There is a printed copy of the "Treaty between the U. S. of America and the Sac and Fox tribe of Indians, February 21, 1838".
