Born on December 21, 1930, David Houston was a Wharton School graduate before earning his doctorate in American Civilization at the University of Pennsylvania. The Marxist scholar became a professor in the economics department at the University of Pittsburgh in the 1960s. He was an activist that protested war and the university's investment practices.
