Born on December 21, 1930, David Houston was a Wharton School graduate before earning his doctorate in American Civilization at the University of Pennsylvania. The Marxist scholar became a professor in the economics department at the University of Pittsburgh in the 1960s. He was an activist that protested war and the university's investment practices. Houston was also a founding member of the Union of Radical Political Economists and was managing editor of its publication for ten years. Houston retired in 1993 and died April 4, 2008.
