The collection consists of family correspondence, photographs, business and military records of the Jarretts and other families, and research reports and materials generated by the Georgia Historical Commission/Historic Preservation Section, Dept. of Natural Resources, in the operation of Traveler's Rest as an historic site. The collection contains information on the following families: Adams, Lipscomb, Lucas, Martin, Ramsay, Walton, White, and Wyly.

The land on which Traveler's Rest, a Stephens Co., GA, inn, also known as Jarrett's Manor, now stands was granted to Major Jesse Walton in 1785. In 1818 his daughter sold the site to James R. Wyly. After Devereaux Jarrett's purchase in 1833, Traveler's Rest remained in the family until Mary Elizabeth Jarrett White sold the manor to the Georgia Historical Commission.
