Martin family.
Sylvester Martin and his wife, Laura, lived in Caton, New York. The Martin family included seven children: Lavina, Rhoda Lodema, Eliza, Mary Ann, Nathan, Joseph, and Ferdinand. Lavina (1828-1879) married Lewis Wood and lived on the family farm in Caton throughout her life. The rest of the family moved west, some settling in Iowa. Rhoda Lodema married Seneca Marcy in 1846 and lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Clarence, Iowa. Sylvester and Laura Martin and their other children followed Rhoda Lodema through the Midwest. Sylvester died in 1862. Mary Ann Martin moved to Wisconsin where she met her husband, Martin Rogers and eventually moved to Zumbota, Minnesota. Eliza married Charles Besaw in Cedar, Iowa in 1857. Ferdinand settled in Wisconsin. After the death of his first wife, he remarried and moved to Iowa. Nathan never married and lived in Wisconsin. Joseph died in Wisconsin at age 16.
