Incoming correspondence of Swedenborgian minister, controversialist, theologian, and anti-slavery advocate, George Bush. Includes discussions of New Jerusalem Church doctrine, the publication and dissemination of New Church tracts in the U.S. and Britain, propagation of the faith, spiritualism and spirituality, and the anti-slavery movement. Earlier letters in the collection include commentary on Bush's theological publications while he was a professor of Hebrew and Oriental literature at New York University, and while still associated with the Presbyterian Church. Correspondents include several prominent Swedenborgians, theologians and anti-slavery advocates, inluding Joseph Tracy, Richard K. Cralle, Gerrit Smith, Henry Tappan, Adin Ballou, Frederick Dan Huntingdon, Thomas Lake Harris, Alexander Jackson Davis, and Lyman Beecher.
