Bertram Erwin Brown was born in South Carolina, attended school in Eufaula, and graduated from the University of Alabama, the University of the South Theological Seminary, and the Virginia Seminary. He was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1896 and served in Ala. churches at Marion, Uniontown, Eufaula, and finally in Tarboro, N.C.

A. J. Pickett was a planter, historian, and author who resided in Montgomery, Ala. His "History of Alabama ..." was published in 1851.
