Charles Dana Gibson was an American graphic artist, noted for his creation of the "Gibson Girl", an iconic representation of the beautiful and independent American woman at the turn of the 20th century. Gibson owned a 700-acre estate in Islesboro, Me., where he and his wife spent an increasing amount of time through the years. Arthur Webster was his caretaker.

Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944) was an American illustrator and graphic artist. He was famous for his iconic drawings of the "Gibson Girl," who represented an ideal young American woman at the turn of the 20th century.

Born Roxbury, Massachusetts. Author and illustrator of THE EDUCATION OF MR. PIPP; SKETCHES IN LONDON; THE SOCIAL LADDER; THE WIDOW; PEOPLE OF DICKENS; and THE AMERICANS. He illustrated for Life magazine, Cosmopolitan, and Collier's for many years. Served as editor of Life magazine.
