Founded in 1919 to promote advancement of the humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies represents about 30 societies and association. Serves as the spokesgroup for the International Union of Academics. The Council publishes "Speculum" and "The Journal of the History of Ideas", and also helps administer the Fulbright Program.
