Painter, educator; New York, N.Y.

Studied at the Art Students League. Professor of Art at Columbia Univ. 1950-1977, students included Charles Cajori, Sally Hazelet Drummond, Jonathan Silver, Robert La Hotan, and Angelo Ippolito. Founding member of New York Studio School with Philip Guston, Leland Bell, Alex Katz, Nicholas Carone, and Mercedes Matter in 1965. Taught at the Art Students League and Parsons-New School. Died Feb. 22, 2000, at age 91.
