Weigle, Marta, 1944-
Marta Weigle (1944-) is a professor of English, Anthropolgy, and American Studies at the University of New Mexico. She was born in Wisconsin on July 3, 1944. She graduated cum laude in Social Relations from Harvard University, June 1965 and received her doctorate in folklore from the University of Pennsylvania in August 1971. She has written many articles and books on the southwest, its culture, tourism, mythology, hispanic village life and art, the Penitentes, New Mexico writers, and historic figures in literature. Some of her publications are Santa Fe and Taos: The Writer's Era, 1916-1941; Women of New Mexico: Depression Era Images; the Lore of New Mexico; Hispanic Arts and Ethnohistory; and Spiders and Spinsters. She lives in Santa Fe, NM.
