Acting director of the Physical Institute of the University of Bonn, 1894; professor and director of physics laboratory, University of Kiel, 1898-1907; professor of experimental physics, University of Heidelberg, and in 1909, director of Heidelberg's Radiological Institute; chief of German Physics and personal adviser to Adolf Hitler from 1933-1945.
