Robert Edward Green (September 30, 1934-January 15, 2003) was born in San Francisco, California. He received his Associate of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1954, and his JD from Hastings College of Law in 1958. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1959, and after a short stint as a lawyer decided to become a Unitarian Universalist minister. He received his BD from Crane Theological School in 1963, and was ordained the same year at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Saugus, Massachusetts, where he had served as a student minister. Over the next two years he was minister at the First Universalist Church in North Olmstead, Ohio, after which he spent a year in Tokyo, Japan as an emissary of the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Japan Free Religious Association. From 1967-1970 he served the All Souls Church in Brattleboro, Vermont, and from 1970-1974 the Unitarian Universalist Church in Lansing, Michigan. In 1974 he received a call from the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Stockton, California, where he stayed until his retirement in 1997, after which he continued to serve as Minister Emeritus. His writings include unpublished manuscripts on biblical interpretation; the history of Unitarian Universalism; and the beginning of a novel about the life of Michael Servetus.
