Jerome K. Jerome was a popular English humorist. Born to Puritan parents but orphaned in his teens, he had the ability to see humor in common situations, which fueled comic novels, stories, plays, and a pair of journals he edited. His desire to be accepted as a serious writer met with less success, but he remains a popular example of British wit and comic inventiveness.
