James Lovell (1737-1814) received his B.A. from Harvard College in 1756 and his M.A. in 1759. Known as a strong orator, he made the valedictory speech at Commencement in the summer of 1759, and followed with the funeral sermon for Tutor Henry Flynt (1675-1760) in Holden Chapel in February 1760. Tutor Henry Flynt (Harvard AB 1693) was one of the College's longest-serving faculty members, teaching from 1699 to 1754. Known as "Father Flynt" to his students, he died on February 13, 1760, at the age of eighty-five.
