Biographical notes:
Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. was born November 29, 1908 in New Haven, Connecticut the son of a well known minister. He was a civil rights leader during the 1930s and was elected to represent Harlem in Congress in 1945; he served for eleven terms. He died on April 4, 1972, in Miami, Florida.
