History notes:

The Tamiment Library & Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives, a special collection in Bobst Library with a focus on left politics and labor history, holds rich collections of books, serials, pamphlets, archives, photographs, oral histories, and more. Subject coverage spans a wide range of topics such as radical politics, civil rights, civil liberties, virtually all aspects of labor and working class movements including labor union strikes, the McCarthy era, the Spanish Civil War, Irish Americans, anarchism, communism, socialism, anti-war movements, feminism, student movements, and countless other topics.

This is an expanding artificial collection which began life as a photographic subseries of the Tamiment LibraryĚ̂s vertical file collection, holding images separated from the LibraryĚ̂s core archival and manuscript collections, and from other sources. With the organization and development of the LibraryĚ̂s photograph collections, it was renamed the Tamiment Library / Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives General Photograph Collection, and was assigned the collection number NP1, the first of the LibraryA︡s more than 100 photographic collections. Apart from the material transferred from the LibraryA︡s vertical files, the General Photograph Collection holds photographic images that are not part of or do not fit into the scope of the LibraryĚ̂s other photographic collections. Images continue to be added to the collection from various sources, including the LibraryĚ̂s archival and manuscript collections.
