Architect, of Midland, Mich.; member of Taliesin Fellowship, 1933; in 1934 designed concrete blocks called "unit blocks" and began construction of Alden Dow Home & Studio; designed entire town of Lake Jackson, Tex. (1934); formed original architectural firm Alden B. Dow, Inc., and successor firms Alden B. Dow Associates and Dow-Howell-Gilmore, Inc.; named to board of directors of Dow Chemical Company in 1941; designed over 600 projects, including the Stein House, the Whitman House, the Pardee House, Riecker House, First Methodist Church of Midland, civic center in Phoenix, Ariz., Kalamazoo Nature Center, and Midland Center for the Arts; in 1937 received the Grande Prix de Paris for residential architecture; named Architect Laureate of the State of Michigan in 1983; b. Alden Ball Dow; d. 1983.
