Perkins writes to Zelda shortly after F. Scott Fitzgerald's death. He recounts having had a confident letter from Scott a few days before he died. He mentions that he has heard from Gilbert Seldes, John Bishop, and John Biggs and that "it is too soon to tell exactly what the situation is financially ..." He adds, "I never had a better friend. He did many things for me, and he was always loyal. I shall always miss him."

Typed letter, signed, on MGM stationery, from F. Scott Fitzgerald to Anne Ober, accompanied by a letter from the Walker School dated August 30, 1937 about Scottie reporting for the Fall term. Fitzgerald notes, "I have your letter and notice that you mentioned something else beside the smoking (I wrote you about that). I still don't believe that she should go out unchaperoned with a boy and night and have never allowed it. Fitzgerald closes with a holograph note, "Something elser I wanted to say has eluded me. I am your forever grateful and devoted henchman Scott F."

FSF reports to his aunt and uncle that he is putting "finishing touches" on his novel "The beautiful lady without mercy". "I really am in this game seriously and for something besides money and if its necessary to bootlick the pet delusions of the inhabitants of "Main Street" (have you read it? It's fine!) to make money I'd rather live on less and preserve the one duty of a sincere writer -- to set down life as he sees it as gracefully as he knows how."

Letter : The Cambridge Arms, Charles St., Baltimore, to [Adelaide W.] Neall [Philadelphia, The Saturday Evening Post, 1936?].
Fitzgerald writes that he is rushing a story to her in the hope of receiving a decision to publish before Christmas. Should she accept the story, he would appreciate some money before Christmas, as his affairs are in poor shape. "If--dare I to ask it & will it influence your judgement on the story?--could you do the unusual thing of wiring me a few hundred to the 1st National Bank in Baltimore? The balance to go thru Ober as usual." Also asks that Mr. Lorimer not be told of the transaction.

Perkins writes to Zelda shortly after considering works of Fitzgerald's might be published posthumously. "We'll find some wahy to do him justice in a book, but I must wait to see the manuscript of the book he was writing. The first part of it that I did see, was as good as anything he ever did do. We must not move too fast. ... As for Scottie, though I haven't seen very much of her, I have kept track of her, and I believe she should have a good life. And what's more, she is assured of the devotion and effort of myself and several others for your sake, and Scott's, and her own. ..."
