Title:
The German allied troops in the North American war of independence, and related materials, ca. 1767-1893.
Extra-illustrated edition of J. G. Rosengarten's The German allied troops in the North American war of independence, 1776-1783 (Albany, NY: Joel Munsell's Sons, 1893), a translation and abridgement of Max von Eelking's 2-volume work: Die deutschen Hülfstruppen im nordamerikanischen Befreiungskriege, 1776 bis 1783 (Hannover: Helwing, 1863); Rosengarten's work is based on both volumes of the original, but the title page erroneously states: Vol. I. The volume contains a total of 18 original documents dated 1767 to 1893; 74 portraits of 57 different subjects, including one of Rosengarten; 7 maps; and 25 other illustrations, including 2 in color (leaves following p. 162, 254). The original documents include: 15 letters or memoranda; a marriage certificate for John Michael (?) and Elisabeth Grauel on 2 April 1767, signed by Michael Schlatter and with a red wax seal showing his coat of arms (leaf following p. 240); a ledger sheet for Pulaski's Legion in Charleston, dated 8 August 1779, signed by Charles-Frédéric Bedaulx (leaf following p. 176); and a customs form signed by Peter Muhlenberg on 11 September 1804 (leaf following p. 222). The letter by Jean-Baptiste-Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau, is incomplete (last leaf only). The volume has indices of names (p. 353-356) and places (p. 357-360). The upper cover and front free endpaper are detached.

Title:
Histories of Forts in Michigan, 1686-1828.
Typescript histories of Forts Drummond and Michilimackinac and the mission and fort at St. Joseph, written by Benjamin Franklin Emery in 1931. Emery presents the various occupations of forts by France, Great Britain, Spain, and the U.S.; relations with the Fox, Miami, Ottawa, Potawatomi, and Sauk Indians; and the Jesuit mission activity in Michigan. Emery's discussion of Native American life includes: burial practices, alcohol use, trade involvement, and Pontiac's Massacre at Fort Michilimackinac. Fur trading, use of forts as exploration and military outposts, the administration of forts, fort construction, and cemetery grounds are also described. Emery explains the role of various men in the region, especially Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix, Jean Baptiste Chevalier, George Etherington, Sir Frederick Haldimand, Charles Michel Mouet de Langlade, and Pontiac. All three histories are published.

Draper manuscripts: Draper's historical miscellanies, 1720-1887.
A "catch all" series arranged by Reuben G. Thwaites and his staff for a varied assortment of manuscripts found among Draper's possessions. Although some pieces could more logically have been placed in other groups related to the author or content, most of the papers did not appear to fit into series which Draper had himself arranged. Some items were acquisitions with topics ranging outside the major areas of his interest, some were personal papers he had created, and a few were documents which had originated in his family.
