Papers of W. H. Holabird, 1889-1973 (bulk 1889-1919)
Holabird's papers have been arranged into four main series. The first and largest series (HM 73863-73875) is comprised of documents and correspondences related to Holabird's survey of Miller and Lux's property for Southern Pacific in 1909. Holabird's surveys were in response to the Southern Pacific's interest in purchasing Miller and Lux and its various holdings. There is one letter by Henry Miller to Holabird. Series two (HM 73876-73878) concerns a handful of papers, reports, and other documents related to Holabird's time as receiver and general manager of the California Development Company. Series three (HM 73879-73884) is made up of various reports Holabird wrote during and after his trips to the Philippines, Manchuria, and Siberia while working for E.H. Harriman and the Southern Pacific Railroad. This section also includes related correspondences regarding Manchuria with New York City-based journalist George Kennan (1845-1924). The final series (HM 73885-73892) includes a number of miscellaneous items: a photograph of Holabird, biographical and autobiographical materials, letters, and World War I-era essays written by Holabird regarding nationalism and communism; it also includes a folder of ephemera with two copies of the Los Angeles Times announcing Holabird's death and a newspaper clipping written by Holabird on agriculture and irrigation in the Imperial Valley.

Title:
Robert Lansing Papers
The Robert Lansing Papers document the later years of Robert Lansing (1864-1928), lawyer, writer, and the longest serving of Woodrow Wilson's three Secretaries of State. During his tenure as Secretary of State (June 23, 1915 to February 13, 1920), the United States entered the First World War on the side of the Entente Powers. Deliberations and negotiations associated with the precarious neutrality which preceded this event and the troubled peace which followed it dominated Lansing's time in office and are reflected in his papers. Lansing's interests as a lawyer, which were international in scope and substance, and the diverse subjects which commanded his attention as a writer – subjects ranging from biblical history to English etymology – are also evident. The Lansing Papers consist of official papers, personal papers, writings and speeches, diaries, sketches, and photographs. Though by no means exhaustive, they shed light on many aspects of Lansing's life and times.

Robert Lansing Papers
Robert Lansing Papers, 1882-1929, 1905-1928
