J. B. Matthews (1894-1966) was a Methodist missionary, college professor, author, lecturer, and prominent conservative spokesman. Collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, statements, speeches, reprints, clippings, broadsides, newsletters, press releases, petitions, and other printed material, chiefly 1930-1969. The principal focus of the collection relates to the work and research of Matthews and his associates in the area of anti-communism, particularly in connection with Matthews' role as Director of Research for the Special Committee on Un-American Activities of the U.S. House of Representatives (1938-1945), Executive Director of the Permanent Subcommittee on Government Operations of the U.S. Senate (1953), and a consultant for John A. Clements Associates. The Durr family papers contain genealogical materials, legal documents, maps, correspondence, letters, clippings, photographs, writings, and printed materials. Almost three-quarters of the collection is composed of the John W. (1863-1941) and Lucy J. Durr (1865-1959) papers, 1904-1959. Among the subjects discussed in those papers are: Brazil-emigration and immigration; Ala.-economic conditions; Ala.-politics and government; the University of Ala.; the University of Va.; Montgomery, Montgomery Co., Ala.; Typhoid fever; Oscar W. Underwood; Race relations; and European War, 1914-1918, especially John W. Durr's (1893-1978) experiences in France and Germany on the front line. Other subjects discussed: Clifford J. Durr's experience as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University, including his travels all over Europe and in Morocco; Durr Drug Co.; Practice of law-Milwaukee; Clifford J. Durr's experiences in the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, the Defense Plant Corporation, and the Federal Communications Commission; Hugo L. The letters are primarily to one sibling from another sibling, and in them are discussed the same subjects as listed above. All of their correspondence with Clifford J. Durr is contained herein.

The collection contains materials dealing with United States Senator from Indiana, Homer E. Capehart. The materials are divided into three series. Series 1: Campaign Materials contains printed items dedicated to Capehart, a special edition of "The Washington Herald" and a mimeograph copy of "The Courier-Journal." Series 2: Senate Materials contains photographs, films and audio tapes of the "Capehart Weekly Report," and audio tapes of press conferences, and speeches during the 1950s and 1960s. Series 3: Business and Home Life contains photographs, film footage of the Capehart family, and a printed item from the Packard Manufacturing Corporation saluting Capehart in 1945.

This project is a compilation of interviews of subjects with strong ties to and memories of Indiana University, primarily at the Bloomington campus. The interviewees include former students, faculty, and staff, among others. The information contained in the interviews generally spans a little more than the first half of the twentieth century and often deals with the administrations under presidents William Lowe Bryan and Herman B Wells. The project is a survey of Indiana University's history as a whole including information about various academic departments, athletics, student organizations, campus growth, university development, living conditions, segregation and the treatment of African-Americans, the administration, and the importance of jazz at Indiana University. In addition, the impact of specific events, such as the Great Depression, World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and water shortages, is detailed in many of the interviews in this project.

Title: Sam Rayburn papers, 1822, 1831, 1845, 1903-2007

Rayburn served as a Texas legislator from 1906 to 1912, when he was elected to the United States Congress. He was elected House majority leader, Democratic Party, in 1937, holding that position until 1940 when he was named Speaker of the House. He continued in that office until his death in 1961, except for two periods of Republican control when he served as minority leader. Correspondence, speeches, interviews, newspaper clippings, printed materials, financial records, maps, charts, and reports document the political career of Sam Rayburn.
