He hopes that his political enemies will not work to defeat his son. He continues with Washington news: tariff under discussion, fate uncertain and comments on Jackson, "his stock is high". He mentions a pamphlet he sent to Dr. Morrison that purports to disprove a medical theory.

Rowan, John, 1773-1843. John Rowan papers, 1805-1829.

This collection contains a letter written to John Rowan by Amos Kendall and a receipt and note signed by Rowan. Kendall's letter was dated June 29, 1829. The one-time editor of the ARGUS OF WESTERN AMERICA was then a member of Andrew Jackson's Kitchen Cabinet. His letter concerned an unsuccessful effort to have Rowan's son (John, Jr.) named secretary to the American legation to either England or France. Kendall assured Rowan that Jackson would meet his expectations for an appointment for his son. The letter also mentioned charges placed against a man named Tobias Watkins for fraud against the Treasury. The note, dated April 19, 1805, is a notice that 300 acres listed under the name of John Fitch, on Cox's Creek in Nelson County, was sold four or five years previously. Fitch, of Bardstown, is acknowledged as the inventor of the steamboat. The receipt was issued for $90 paid by Hugh Mercer, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, for Rowan's fee in representing a man named Austin in a case, Austin v. Bates, heard in Jefferson Circuit Court. It is dated June 11, 1822.
