Soldier.
John Hamtramck was a Pittsburgh, PA glass manufacturer.
Col. Hammtramck was an officer in the United States Army during the American Revolution until his death in 1803.
Born in Canada, Hamtramck made his career with the United States Army. In 1787 he built Fort Knox at Vincennes, Indiana, and served there for six years before going on to Cincinnati, Fort Wayne, and Detroit. In Vincennes, it was Hamtramck's job to establish order and maintain peace between the French already there, new settlers, and Native Americans living on the Wabash River.
