The Chester Beach papers measure 7.32 linear feet and date from 1846 to 1999, with the bulk ot the material dating from circa 1900 to 1999. The work and professional activities of Beaux Arts sculptor Chester Beach (1881-1956) and his family's efforts to exhibit and sell work from the estate are documented by project files, business records, correspondence, scrapbooks, printed material, and photographs. The papers also include many artist-designed Christmas cards sent and received by the Beach family, and artwork by Chester Beach and others.

Papers include letters from Anna H. Huntington and Katherine Heyward re Yaghjian's election to the USC faculty in 1945; David H. Morrison's 1933 description of Yaghjian: "I was impressed with the blunt honesty and the direct and forceful character of the man. It is these same qualities that I feel are to be met with in his paintings"; in 1972, Gunther Stamm commented on Yaghjian's paintings of the early 1970s: "In reviewing Yaghjian's work from 19671 through 1972, the most amazing aspect may well be the unusual spectrum of 'styles'... employed in his art.... the same freshness and openness of the sensible mind was equally devoted to all of his different 'periods.'" Title: The Land called Chicora and related materials, 1933-1963.

The Land Called Chicora and Related Materials series is composed of research notes, correspondence, and manuscript drafts relating to Paul Quattlebaum's book, The Land Called Chicora. This series also contains material dealing with general South Carolina history as well as genealogically-related correspondence. The book details early European exploration and abortive attempts at settlement along the South Carolina coast prior to the coming of the English in 1670. In writing this book Quattlebaum compiled research from libraries and archives in North America and Europe. He maintained extensive correspondence with various historians, curators, archivists, and antiquarians. As his reputation as a local historian grew, Quattlebaum received numerous genealogical inquiries pertaining to South Carolina and Horry County. In some instances this genealogical correspondence relates to individuals in the Horry County Families series in the Quattlebaum papers. Well known correspondents in the Chicora series include A.M. Huntington, Bernard Baruch, and South Carolina historians Robert Meriwether, Chapman J. Milling, and A.S. Salley.
