Correspondence re teaching positions and art exhibits, along with 42 published programs from art exhibitions, 1932-1972, reflecting national recognition of Yaghjian's work; two volumes: photograph album, 1930-1972, documenting Yaghjian's paintings; and scrapbook, 1931-1972, of newspaper clippings re Yaghjian's career. Papers include letters from Anna H. Huntington and Katherine Heyward re Yaghjian's election to the USC faculty in 1945; David H. Morrison's 1933 description of Yaghjian: "I was impressed with the blunt honesty and the direct and forceful character of the man. It is these same qualities that I feel are to be met with in his paintings"; in 1972, Gunther Stamm commented on Yaghjian's paintings of the early 1970s: "In reviewing Yaghjian's work from 19671 through 1972, the most amazing aspect may well be the unusual spectrum of 'styles'... employed in his art.... the same freshness and openness of the sensible mind was equally devoted to all of his different 'periods.'" Places represented include Providence (Rhode Island); New York and Saratoga (N.Y.); Sarasota (Florida); Washington (D.C.); Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania); Columbia (Missouri); and Charleston and Columbia (S.C.)

Artist and college professor of Columbia, S.C.; born in Kharpert, Armenia; studied at Rhode Island School of Design and Art Students League in New York City, 1926-1932; professor of art and head of the Department of Art at University of South Carolina, 1945-1966; USC artist-in-residence, 1966-1972; although many publications have listed his birth year as 1903 or 1904, records at Ellis Island cite 16 Feb. 1905 as Yaghjian's date of birth.
