Whitehead, Alfred North, 1861-1947. Alfred North Whitehead collection, 1885-1934.
Title:
Alfred North Whitehead collection, 1885-1934.
Collection (1899-1949) consists of Whitehead's manuscript notes, letters, books, and a few personal items of English mathematician and philosopher, Alfred North Whitehead (1861-1947). Correspondence forms the bulk of the collection, mostly Whitehead's letters (1919-1929) to his son, T. North. Letters (1925-1927) of other Whitehead family members are also included as well as a few of Whitehead's incoming letters (1924) from colleagues and friends. An autobiographical sketch is among the manuscript material. A typescript of an article entitled "Science and Economic Liberty" is also included. Clippings, reprints, and an account from Trinity College form a small part of the collection. The final items are 23 Philosophy books belonging to Whitehead, some annotated, and many Whitehead family photographs.
