Manabozho (Gluskap) is a trickster figure integral to most Algonquin tribes in the North / Northeastern Woodlands. "The Great Hare", or "the Great White One" easily transforms, is a creator and provider of food, and represents life forces.

William Elsey Connelley was born in Kentucky in 1855. He taught school there for ten years. In 1881 he moved to Bonner Springs, Kansas, where he assumed the principalship of the public schools there. In 1882 he was appointed deputy county clerk of Wyandotte County, and was elected county clerk in 1883 and 1885. He served in the Kansas State Historical Society as president in 1912 and secretary in 1914. He was the author of many historical articles and books including History of Kansas, State and People, a five volume work that was published in 1928.
Historian; author of Quantrill and the border wars.
William Elsey Connelley (1855-1930), avocational historian and author, was born in Kentucky but spent his adult life in Kansas as a teacher, county clerk, businessman (wholesale lumber) and banker. From 1914 till his death in 1930, he was Secretary of the Kansas State Historical Society.

Correspondence (1867-1911), diaries (1884-1908), military papers (1859-1888), memo & address books (1894-1909), court cases, certificates, and invitations relate to Eugene F. Ware's military career in Colorado, Dakota Territory, Iowa, Kansas, & Nebraska with the 1st Iowa Infantry Regiment and 4th & 7th Iowa Cavalry Regiments; his law practice in Fort Scott & other Kansas cities; his term as Kansas State senator (1879-83); and as pension commissioner (1902-5). Includes material on the Spanish American War and Topeka, Kan., floods (1903). Other topics include Fort Scott, autobiographical notes, poems & commentaries about poems, Kansas' quarter- and half-century of statehood celebrations, his nom de plume Ironquill, and controversy over his poem Dewey. This collection contains mostly typescript originals and copies of Franklin Benjamin Sanborn's correspondence, writings, and miscellaneous papers, 1847-1915. Included are two registers of Sanborn's school in Concord, 1859-1860, and a register for the Concord School of Philosophy, 1879-1882. The manuscript box consists of correspondence with his wife Ariana Walker Sanborn (1832-1854), and letters concerning John Brown, "Bleeding Kansas," and Kansas politics; poetry written largely by Sanborn to his wife; his addresses and lectures before various philanthropic societies, on topics like the Balkan War against Turkey in 1910; Sanborn's writings on Greece, American poetry, and various literary figures. There are also writings for his newspaper columns, and a miscellany of typescript fragments, including a copy of the journal of Samuel Gridley Howe (1801-1876) concerning his part in the Greek War for Independence in 1825.
