Arthur Pound, June 1, 1884 - Jan. 14, 1966, was born in Pontiac, Michigan. He worked for a variety of newspapers as an editor and editorial writer between 1913 and 1940. In 1935 and 1936 Pound was a research professor of American history at the University of Pittsburgh. From 1940 to 1944 Pound served as state historian and Director of the Division of Archives and History for New York. Pound is the author of The Iron Man in Industry, 1922; Johnson of the Mohawks, (with Richard E. Day), 1930; Hawk of Detroit, 1939; Detroit: Dynamic City, 1940; and Lake Ontario, 1945, among other works. He was also co-editor, with Samuel Taylor Moore, of They Told Barron, 1930; and More They Told Barron, 1931.
Arthur Pound was a writer and historian who was commissioned by the University of Pittsburgh to write a history of industry for the Western Pennsylvania Historical Survey. The book, Two Centuries of Industry, was rejected by the press.

Pound was born in Pontiac, Michigan in 1884. He began a career in journalism after graduating from the University of Michigan in 1907. He was an active writer for such newspapers as the New York Evening Post and the New York Herald as well as the Atlantic Monthly magazine. A majority of his research and reporting dealt with the social effects of industrialization and the effects of government regulation on business. In 1940 Pound was appointed New York State Historian.

The papers of Arthur Pound consist of correspondence, drafts and printed copies of his speeches and writings, research notes, and other ancillary papers related to his long and varied career as a journalist, editor, writer, and historian. The correspondence, almost exclusively incoming, relates to speaking engagements, publication of his own works, and the review of works by others. His writings and speeches, mostly typewritten in format, cover a wide array of topics and interests relative to history, economics, politics, literature, and arts. Likewise, these papers include drafts of poems, short stories, and other works of fiction penned by Arthur Pound. The Herzog family papers consist of a wide array of materials documenting the careers of family members who were prominent in law, banking and finance, politics and government, and in numerous social clubs, charities, and civic organizations in Albany for over a half-century. Includes papers related to the military service of Lester W. Herzog Jr. during World War II. and subsequent career as an officer with Albany Commercial Bank and Trust from 1950s to 1970s; papers related to Jacob Herzog's career in politics and government in Albany County, particularly his run for U.S. Congress as the Democrat Party candidate in 1968; materials related to Madelon Pound Herzog's interest in music and performing arts organizations, and involvement in civic activities. The collection also includes a series of scrapbooks related to the career of Luther W. Herzog Sr. as Commissioner of Public Works in the City of Albany, 1934-1928; correspondence and genealogical papers of Frederick Van Orsdale and his daughter Helen Van Orsdale Herzog.
